9 January • God's Desire to Heal the World
Welcome to "A Word of Hope" for the Friday after Epiphany. As we stand in the week between the Feast of the Epiphany and the upcoming Feast of the Baptism of the Lord, our readings invite us to tune ourselves into the frequency of God's love.
In today's reflection, Fr. Greg Heille looks back at a powerful week of scripture. From the First Letter of St. John, we have learned that belief in the Son of God provides an internal testimony of eternal life. From the Gospels, we have witnessed "stellar events" like the feeding of the 5,000 and walking on water.
But today's Gospel (Luke 5) brings us an intimate moment: a leper asks to be clean, and Jesus responds, "I do will it." This reveals God's deepest desire—to cleanse our world with justice, peace, and reconciliation. As we prepare for the Baptism of the Lord, ask yourself: What is my role in making this dream come true?
