Fr. Brendan Curran, OP breaks open the readings for the Thirty First Sunday in Ordinary Time, with Jesus' famous statement, "call no one on earth your father, for you have one Father in Heaven." Jesus was warning those who would have a role of leadership in the Church not to exploit their privilege, but to humbly serve others for the sake of the Gospel. Today, we might also take the opportunity to name the ways in which our community has been hurt because of these abuses.

In the Book of Exodus we read: "Thus says the Lord: 'You shall not molest or oppress an alien, for you were once aliens yourselves in the land of Egypt.'" This is a difficult commandment to follow in the USA today.

St. Paul tells us that we are being built together into a dwelling place of God. Sometimes we feel as if there is no hope that we can overcome the negativity of the world, but if the Holy Spirit truly dwells among us, there is nothing we cannot do.

Jesus called 72 disciples and sent them forth, two by two, to go out and preach the Good News. Since then, we have had many amazing people sent forth to preach, but now it is our turn. So let us go forth in mission together–Harambee!

Jesus called a follower who replied, "yes, but first..." Is that us? Now is time to follow.

Brendan Curran, OP breaks open the readings for the Twenty Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time, with Jesus' parable about the vineyard owner who hires people all through the day, but ends up paying them all the same—a full day's wage. In the end, God is equally grateful to everyone who Join in the mission of saving the world, no matter how long they have been doing it.

After Peter had caught nothing after fishing all night, Jesus told him to cast his nets out further, where he got a miraculous catch. Sometimes, God challenges our failures by asking us to try something even bigger.

Jesus healed Simon Peter's mother-in-law, and she immediately got up and began serving them. God heals us so that we can serve others.

The Canaanite woman demanded a miracle healing for her daughter even after Jesus called her a dog. Do we have faith that can persist through adversity?

Jesus said to let the children come to him because heaven belonged to such as these. Are we childlike in our enthusiasm towards and openness to God?

The Israelites grumbled against God in the desert. We should not spend so much time complaining sop that we can get on with the work we are meant to do, because there will always be problems.
