Marching for Dr. King’s Legacy

Sixty years after Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the Chicago Freedom Movement encountered violence and hostility in Marquette Park, thousands returned for a peaceful commemorative march honoring Dr. King’s legacy and renewing the call for justice and unity.

Fr. Brendan Curran, OP, an organizer with the Resurrection Project and North American Dominican Co-Promoter for Justice, Peace, and Integrity of Creation, joined participants from across Chicago, including Dr. Bernice King, Mayor Brandon Johnson, and musician and actor Common. Common performed “Glory,” his Academy Award-winning anthem inspired by the civil rights movement, and Fr. Brendan addressed those gathered about the continuing struggle against racism and injustice.
