Why Couldn't Peter Follow Jesus? | Holy Week Tuesday Reflection

Remote video URL

For Tuesday of Holy Week, from the beautiful edge of Mountain Village, Alaska.

In today’s reflection, we look at a powerful moment of transition in the Gospel of John: Jesus' last night with his disciples. When Jesus tells them he is leaving, Peter insists he will follow—even to the point of death. Yet, Jesus predicts Peter's denial. Father Scott explores exactly *why* Peter couldn't follow Jesus at that moment: not just because of a lack of faith or his reliance on violence, but because he had not yet received the Holy Spirit.

Jesus had to leave so the Spirit could come. Today, we celebrate that through our baptism, we have been given that same Holy Spirit. With it, heaven is the limit, and we are empowered to follow Jesus and do amazing things!
