The Province of St. Albert the Great annually convenes our Provincial’s Dinner each fall. Friars and friends gather to celebrate our heritage, to honor great preaching, and to nourish bonds. This year, we will come together on the evening of November 30th at the Union League of Chicago. https://www.ulcc.org/
Those gathered at the Provincial’s Dinner honor a worthy recipient with our Great Preacher Award. Fr. Timothy Radcliffe, O.P., of the Province of England will honor us at this year’s Provincial’s Dinner by accepting this tribute.
Ordained in 1971, this renowned preacher and author served his brother Dominicans as Master of the Order from 1992 until 2001. Educated in Paris under Yves Congar and at Oxford, Father Radcliffe’s books have been translated into more than 20 languages. He has Honorary Doctorates from the University of Oxford and twelve other universities, including Fribourg and the Angelicum.
At the invitation of Pope Francis, Fr. Timothy presented six reflections to participants in the historic SYNOD ON SYNODALITY in Rome during their pre-synod retreat. He remained at the Synod as an observer and will make his first public appearance following the Synod here with us in Chicago on November 30th.
During that retreat, Fr. Radcliffe remarked, "So, my brothers and sisters, we may be divided by different hopes. But if we listen to the Lord and to each other, seeking to understand his will for the church and the world, we shall be united in a hope that transcends our disagreements.” “
“We shall speak with authority to our lost world if in this Synod we transcend competitive ways of existing. Then the world will recognize the voice of the shepherd who summons them to life.”
