What is hope? Father Louis Morrone, O.P., offers a simple definition: to trust and believe in that which you cannot yet see. In this episode of A Word of Hope for Tuesday of the 29th Week in Ordinary Time, Fr. Louis reflects on why this series began during the pandemic—a time when the world was changing and so many were losing hope—and why it continues today, because we always need hope. He turns to St. Paul's words in today's first reading: once we were "without hope and without God in the world," but now in Christ Jesus, we who were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ (Ephesians 2:12-13). That is our hope realized. Yet we still live in hope day to day, when things aren't going well and we don't know which way to turn. Today also marks a special day for the Dominicans of the Province of St. Albert the Great: the start of the annual Novena to St. Jude Thaddeus, the Apostle of Hope, patron of difficult and impossible cases. From October 20 through the Feast of St. Jude on October 28, Masses will be celebrated daily at the Shrine of St. Jude at St. Pius V Church in Chicago at 12:00 noon and 6:30 p.m. Wherever you are, you're invited to join by livestream for the noon Mass (livestreamed on all but two days of the novena). **Join the St. Jude Novena:** Schedule and livestream at https://the-shrine.org **Scripture referenced:** Ephesians 2:12-22 (First Reading, Tuesday of the 29th Week in Ordinary Time) **In this video:** - 00:00 Welcome – Tuesday of the 29th Week in Ordinary Time - 00:18 Why A Word of Hope began during the pandemic - 00:44 Why we always need hope - 00:49 What is hope?
