Welcome to A Word of Hope by Fr. Greg Heille for Sunday, September 28th, the 26th Sunday in Ordinary Time. This week's second reading, Philippians 2:1-11, contains one of the oldest hymns of the Church — words first prayed in a house church in the Greek city of Philippi in the first century. St. Paul calls us to "be of the same mind, with the same love, united in heart, thinking one thing." But let's be honest: we don't all think the same thing. People are different, and we don't always agree. So what does it mean to be of one mind? It means putting on the mind of Christ — who emptied himself, took the form of a servant, and humbled himself even to death on a cross. Living in Christian community means rubbing up against our differences, learning the art of forgiveness, and discovering one another in both strength and weakness.
